9:48PM - All In a Day's Work...

The end of the year is busy time at the hospital. Ok, the whole year is busy, but the last three months are especially frenetic. We have lots of public and employee events/programs going on and everyone has projects that need to be wrapped up before the calendar switches over. It's hectic, but energizing.

I have a date next Sunday.

And for the first time in maybe forever, I feel like it may be a significant one.

Just had to commit this moment to memory. Just in case...

11:49AM - Santacula

A quick shout out for a friend of mine who has published a couple ebooks that you might enjoy:

A while back his first book, Dawn of the Yeti, was featured for free so I went on and downloaded it. I didn't have a Kindle at that point, but I started reading it on my phone and finished it on the kindle. It's a post-apocalyptic story set during a second Ice Age, where a group of survivors fight for their lives against the elements, each other and packs of bloodthirsty monsters who have become the new alpha species.

I just started reading Santacula last night. It's an interesting concept. A group of teen vampires is tired of being on Santa's naughty list so they've devised a plot to lure him to one of their houses and kill him. That's all I know so far. The concept of the book is interesting too, because it's written via emails, texts, instand messages and even LJ posts! There, how can you NOT read it now?!

Anyways, if you're into ebooks you can check them out.

10:51AM - Exciting

I'm pretty excited. Let me count the ways:

I ordered a bunch of snazzy socks on Woot.com. They've added lots of different categories and I find something that tantalizes me pretty much every day. Generally I use restraint, but when dynamic footwear is on the line you've gotta pull the trigger. Once they arrive I'll have to find some excellent compliments from The Tie Bar.

This Kindle thing is pretty exciting. I'm reading a free novel about this army dude turned lawyer who is caught up in a Tom Clancy-eque incident in PORTLAND of all places. It kinda makes me want to drive around and see how well the author actually researched the locations he's referencing.

Kindle usage has prompted me to explore Amazon. Also, there's a podcast I listen to that's sponsored by Amazon, so if I find excuses to buy stuff I can support their show. Not gonna lie... I'm kind liking the possibility of buying groceries on there and having them just show up at my door! I go to my friendly neighborhood produce stand every week, but they don't have any canned/dry goods or cleaning supplies etc. I need to check to make sure the pricing is decent, but it seemed pretty close when I was browsing last night. For a lot of things you have to buy larger quantities, but I'm fine with that. So we'll see how that goes...

Candles. They're pretty exciting.

I ended up getting Black Ops 2 on release day. I wasn't planning to (and really wasn't that excited about it), but I broke down on my way home from work. After a mini-rage when I couldn't connect to Xbox Live for a minute I dove in and started having a blast. Pretty excited that Thanksgiving is next week so my brothers will be around and we can have a mini-party. Even though they're more sports game people.

I'm excited about sports. NBA, NFL and College Football. Holiday fun times.

I'm sorry you're looking so bored tonight.

Eyes like those should be sparkling in the streetlamps.

And lips like those should never look so lonely...

8:08PM

I had a thoughtful moment today. Driving home from my parents house. We've had such a ridiculously nice summer and fall this year. I can't believe it's comfortable to drive with the windows down on the last day of September. Hugo is glad for sure. He had his head out the window, sucking in great gulpfulls of air, the wind whipping his hair straight back and pulling his tight lips into the closest thing to a doodle smile that he can muster under such circumstances. Summer completely let go, but the best parts of fall are already creeping in. All this, punctuated with the beat of the perfect song brought me to a realization.

This is the best my life is going to be for the foreseeable future.

There are so many things I long for in my life that would have made this moment impossible. Differences in my life that would most-likely have prevented me from golfing on a Sunday mornings, removed the need for me to leave Hugo at my parents' house and forced me to trade Dragonette for The Wilggles.

But that moment was so perfect. It was everything that should be right now.

Life is full of a million different choices, endless permutations and options. The trick is to leverage perfect moments out of the opportunities you have. Control what you can, and focus on everything that's good and wonderful in your universe, not the things that aren't available to you at the moment.

I'll need to read this many more times. And remember that moment.

Totally blew past my 10-year anniversary on LJ. Yah, that's right. I've been keeping it real since 2001. ;)

Thanks for putting up with my weirdness.

12:55PM - Favorites of 2011

How is it already this late in December and I haven't lapsed into introspection?! Unbelievable.

Because I've been ordering photo prints like crazy (including a delicious 24x36" canvas) I'll start the season off by giving a rundown of my favorite images from 2011:

PhotobombCollapse )

There's still time left to snag more images. But it's fun to look back at some highlights. I'm feeling very inspired and excited about some of my accomplishments this year. It wasn't an exceptionally prolific year, but one I can definitely build on.

And if you tortured your way though all of this, bless you. :)
